-Introduction

The purpose of this report is to fulfill the internship requirement for BSc (Hons) in Computer Science at Sunway University. This is my first semester of third year, or semester 7 in general.

-Internship Prerequisite Learning

My ways of finding an internship position are through (1)internet and (2)workshops held by the school. During semester 5, I had attended an interview from SpeedRent. It is a web-based home rental platform. As I am a hostel student and doesn't own a car, SpeedRent's office location near LRT station bacame a very attractive factor for me. It is actually a part time job offer instead of intership but if we perform well, SpeedRent may take us as its interns. However, since that was my first time attending a job interview, I didn't expect the way they asked questions. I didn't manage to pass their interview. 

I started to work on my internship application process right after the August semester break. I have learnt about how to prepare an impressing resume and cover letter in Communication Skills subject in the past semester. Since I have already done them as assignment, all I need to do is just some improvement and updates. 

After everything was well prepared, there came the most horrible part for me. Due to my highly sensitive and pessimistic personality, I was too afraid to make any stupid mistakes in front of people I don't know. 

This may sounds weird, but I was afraid to hit the "send" button far more than actually facing an interview. 

The second interview I attended was again a workshop held by the school. It is from Ernst and Young, and they will probably take interns as IT consultants. I don't like to talk to people, especially to act as a professional when I am not one, but I treated this workshop as a chance to practice my interviewing skills. As expected, I failed the interview once again, but this time with the reason of they were not satisfied with my academic results. 

According to my failure rate, I think I need to find more companies myself. 

I started to surf the internet for companies with internship programmes/wanted to hire interns. Hitachi is the very first company I sent my resume to. From the company list provided by school, it is stated its office is somewhere near SunwayGeo. When I received their interview offer, I was surprised to find out that it is actually located in Sunway Pinnacle. 

Getting dressed in formal is stressful enough, but the whole trip to Hitachi was considered fun. Please allow me to note this down, as it is truely a very special experience for me which I will never want to forget. 

Through taking different types of transportation, I have been trying to go to Sunway Pinnacle several days before the interview. Other than prevent myself from being late on the actual meeting day because of (nong cuo) the location, this is also an early research for how I am going to (shang ban) if I pass the interview. I thought everything will be normally fine, but days later I found out that was because I never got to see the inner part of the building. 

Level challenge 1 is the ultimate lift. When I arrived at the basement of Sunway Pinnacle, I was given a card while registring at the counter. There are several auto-doors like Sunway Library's and people have to use their card to go in and out of the building. There were a total of 12 lifts right after passing the door but I am not allowed to go into whatever lift I want. After reading the summarized rule written on the wall and observing how other people get into their lifts, I came out with the exact steps. 

Firstly, I needed to tap my card on the card scanner(?) beside the lift. Then, the machine prompted to get my input of the floor number I wanted to go. After that, a lift was assigned to me and it would and only would take me to the floor desired. Since when did I see this kind of security before? It is impossible for me to not letting out a gasp.

The girl at the frontdesk is the very first person I met. I was so happy when I saw how friendly she was. A girl from Human Resource was then came to lead me to their meeting room very soon. Her name is Glenys! She was the one who contacted me through email and Whatsapp, and she was an intern too. Glenys has already finished her studies in Monash but decided to work as an intern first because it was less pressured. She told me that she was not the person to interview me but "don't worry, the interviewer is very nice". She even asked if I am nervous. 

A few minutes later, the interviewer, Ben came into the room with a welcoming tone of Hi. He made the interview into a very casual talk until even an antisocial like me found it kind of enjoyable. We really talked a lot, without those standard critical interview questions. To be honest, I almost saw him as an experienced friend. Ben told me what he was doing before coming to Hitachi, ..

It was also funny to find out that everyone there was actually speaking Mandarin to each other.

I know that everyone needs cheerful people around them, so I have to be one to satisfy the others. 

I admit that I was not mentally healthy. 

Until I confirmed my final decision, I have applied to 2 companies with interview chances handled by the school, 2 companies which actually offered me an interview opportunity and another 2 which didn't reply my applications. 

I heard that some of my friends actually sent 20 to 30 applications but only got about 6 or 7 of them responded. 

Maybe I was lucky enough, I think.
